About the School

Chelmsford County High School is a highly selective state grammar school for girls. Students who wish to enter Year 7 at 11 years old take a rigorous entrance examination. The competition for places is fierce. The academic pace is fast and the school teaches some of the most able girls in the country.

All students sit GCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 at 16 years old and most choose to stay at Chelmsford County High School for the Sixth Form. Students from, other schools, join the Sixth Form and they enrich the student body and benefit from the high academic demands and the scholarly ethos of the school.

Academic standards are extremely high and the extracurricular opportunities are numerous and varied; the students themselves run many clubs and societies. There is a lively music department, showcasing many talented and dedicated students. Likewise Chelmsford County High School has a very active drama department, putting on high calibre productions each year.

Students are also very active in sciences and engineering and compete in national competitions, often securing high positions.

The students are trained in debating, again achieving highly in inter-school regional and national competitions. The school also produces some superb sportswomen, many achieving recognition at county level and a few at national level.
