About the School

King Edward’s is an exciting place to be. School heritage goes back to 1551 and beyond and throughout that time the school has survived by listening, learning, changing and adapting. The challenges of today makes these principles all the more important to ensure that every voice in our community is valued.

King Edward’s may have been around longer than many schools but their focus is always on the future, whether that is on developing the site and buildings or leading the way in eLearning and Webinars. King Edward VI Grammar School is committed to retaining the important aspects of its heritage, and aspects of the traditional grammar school ethos whilst embracing the changes of the modern world.

At the heart of the King Edward’s experience are three core values; they are the Holistic, the Academic, and a commitment to a broad Education.

Their Holistic approach means that to leave King Edward’s with only a good set of grades would be to have missed the point of being at King Edward’s. Students can enjoy a wealth of opportunities with King Edward VI Grammar School in the Arts, Music, Drama, Sport, Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh and many many more activities, trips and events.

King Edward VI Grammar School is first and foremost an academic school and proud of its grammar school heritage. The children that join in Year 7 and in Year 12 share a common academic bond that creates a unique relaxed atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Thanks to this academic atmosphere King Edward VI Grammar School is fortunate to operate as a largely self-regulating family.

Staff are proud and passionate about helping each individual across the finishing line. The expert and highly qualified staff are subject specialists, often working as examiners or lead examiners, researchers, trainers or authors in their subject area.

King Edward VI Grammar School has a commitment to educate for life not just train for exams. This important but subtle distinction is at the heart of their commitment to children.
