11+ Exams Spellings List

11 Plus Exams spelling and vocabulary lists can be found all over the place and not one of these lists will cover all possible words that may occur in this important exam. Our list covers a wide range of words that we feel may be a useful list of relevant words that can appear in an 11+ English Exam or Verbal Reasoning exam.

11+ spelling list

The 11+ requires your child to have a wide vocabulary and be able to spell quickly and correctly so that they can work quickly through the difficult questions that they will have to answer.

A good vocabulary is essential for success in 11+ Exams.

A list such as this is important because it will include words that have been used in earlier exams or words which 11+ Exams publishers have used in their 11+ papers. Some of this vocabulary will be words that have been used by both of the major 11+ exam publishers eg GL and CEM. Our list also contains some difficult words that a child may have met as part of their daily teaching but at the same time these are not common words.

Some of the words in the list are words that are often spelt wrongly or the meaning may not be too easy for a child to understand.

After you have scrolled through the list you can download and print it, using the "W" icon, and keep it as a useful resource for reference or for teaching and learning.

This may seem a simple question and really the answer is quite straight forward. Children develop their vocabulary by reading extensively and across a wide genre of material. These genres will include fiction and non-fiction. Reading will make familiar words become common knowledge to a child while at the same time reading will teach the child a range of new and different words that may be central to their 11plus exams. Try to encourage your child to read by introducing them to texts that they enjoy.

Once your child has improved their spelling then they need to apply it to practice papers to improve their exam skills. You will find these products very useful for improving English skills and exam technique.
