About the School

The school website gives a good flavour of life in the The Royal Latin School.

The Royal Latin School takes pride in their long history, they celebrate current successes, and are excited by plans for the future. The Royal Latin is a state funded co-educational Grammar School which became an Academy in 2011. It has always been a school in which individual students are nurtured – the overarching aim is to develop the skills and qualities necessary to enable all students to be happy and achieve their academic and personal potential. Of all of these words, ‘happy’ is the most important and staff strive to provide a strong system of support to ensure every individual student is cared for.

The Royal Latin School offers students a wide range of opportunities, both in and out of the classroom to allow them to make this aim a reality. At A-level they have over 23 subjects to choose from, whilst at GCSE and KS3 students benefit from a similar breadth of offer.

The Royal Latin School are also able to broaden the curriculum through a programme of Electives which allow students to extend their learning beyond the formal curriculum. The Royal Latin School believes that students benefit significantly from experiences beyond the classroom. To this end, they provide a huge number of trips and visits across all department areas.

The Royal Latin School has high academic standards. The school motto is ‘High Expectations For All’ and staff are very pleased to see the progress which students make over and above expectations each year. The Royal Latin School's outstanding results place the school amongst the top performing state schools in the country. Crucial to this success is the expertise and enthusiasm of staff, all of whom are specialists in their own subject areas.

The Royal Latin School celebrates our 600th anniversary in 2023 and the 600 Campaign is an ambitious three phase plan to develop the school’s facilities in order to give students the resources they need to make their seventh century even more successful than ever.
